Rome in 3 Days – All the Best Highlights

Background

Rome is one of the oldest, most important and majestic cities in the world. It is the hub of Roman Empire, the Catholic Church, and is Italy’s capital.

It has something for everyone — art, architecture, food, fountains, palaces and parks. It would take years to see it all, yet the historic center is suprisingly small — more the size of Barcelona or Prague than London or Paris, the big cities it is often compared to.

Rome is home to the biggest church in Europe (St Peter’s Basilica), an ancient port that resembles Pompeii (Ostia Antica) and some of the greatest museums in the world (the Vatican galleries, Villa Borghese, Capitoline, Barberini & National Museums).

Roman food is a blend of all the best of the country’s cuisines, and you can eat outside much of the year. Kids have lots of stuff to climb on, and parks to run around in.

Cover distances in a couple hours that would take a week on foot, taking photos, getting your questions answered, and making a plan for the rest of your time in Rome.

Catacombs

The Christians buried their dead in long tunnel-like cemeteries built under the greatest road of all time — the Via Appia Antica. Only a few miles from the Colosseum, it is as quiet and evocative as it was 4oo years ago.
